Eighth in my "Women of Japanese Horror" series.

According to Japanese legend, the Rokurokubi is a strange kind of shapeshifter creature that appears like an ordinary woman (or man) during the day, but at night stretches its snake-like neck, which searches for things it wants. Some people might be Rokurokubi and not even know, with their head slithering away from the body while they're sleeping. o__o; They're not necessarily harmful all the time, but they're given to excess and gluttony and will take whatever they want, whether it be expensive furniture or, in some cases, a human sex partner. Death of those whom it wants isn't very common, but it happens. But never let it be said that Rokurokubi aren't fun to be around - they love to party lavishly. ;)

While she's not as downright dangerous as the Yuki-Onna, you have to admit that seeing your lover's neck suddenly become like a snake would be enough to scare the tar/piss/crap/life out of you. I know I'd run wailing into the night. :fear: I like how her body turned out, and yes, I know how big her breasts are. It's become a habit - I can't draw small breasts anymore! "Seraphic Feather" has ruined me!

I drew her having a Heian-period (ancient, ancient Japan - over 1000 years ago, folks) look to her hair and eyebrows. Why? Because women in the Heian period had really, really, really long hair, and I love drawing long hair. Plus I like the eyebrow shape. :D

Watercolor, pencil, pen, and Photoshop.

"According to Japanese legend, the Rokurokubi is a strange kind of shapeshifter creature that appears like an ordinary woman during the day, but at night stretches its snake-like neck, which searches for things it wants." VIII: ROKUROKUBI is number 8 in ~carrie-ko's picture series entitled "Women of Japanese Horror". Like most of the work in her gallery it's beautifully traditionally rendered in a slightly surrealistic illustrative style. ( Featured by `MPsai )

Some of the more harmless Rokurokubi like to scare drunks out wandering at night. XD

love this piece, looks almost like artistic work of the Edo period. Truely a strange beast, but you did a great job on it.
